Healing

HealingThe Basis for Healing

Both church history and the bible are full of references to Jesus healing. There is a strong biblical basis, as well as many personal experiences, that give us a strong expectation for God to heal people today. Our biblical and practical understanding is listed below:

Healing has been present throughout the history of the church right from the early New Testament church and the ministry of the second century church Fathers to the present day. It continues to remain very much a part of church life in a wide variety of different churches and denominations. As a Pentecostal/Charismatic church we not only believe that God can heal but have regularly experienced Christ’s healing amongst us.

Healing is in the Bible

We believe the 53rd. Chapter of Isaiah holds the key to our healing, both spiritual and physical. Isaiah 53:6 says, "… the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all." This verse provides for our salvation. In Isaiah 53:4 it says, in the Hebrew, "Surely He has borne our sicknesses, and carried our pains." This verse provides for healing. Matthew takes this verse from the Old Testament to the new in Matthew 8:17 when he says, "That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bore our sicknesses.”

Healing is a part of the word for our Salvation

A major Greek word for salvation is ‘sozo’ which is used in the bible to describe: spiritual salvation Luke 8:12, physical healing Luke 8:47 and deliverance Luke 8:36. We believe Jesus wants us to be made whole, spiritually, emotionally and physically.

Through Christ we believe healing is available. The bible tells us to pray for those who are sick and to God to heal. Jesus said, ‘And these signs will follow those who believe: … they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover." Mark 16:17-18 The epistle to James states, ‘Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.’ James 5:14-15 We believe these scriptures are as true for us today as when they were when they were first written.

We grow in the Healing Ministry

We recognize that we are still growing and developing in the healing ministry, and that not everyone we pray for is instantly healed. However just as a medical doctor doesn’t give up when a treatment is not immediately successful, so we continue to press into God in faith filled prayer for healing. We recognize God is the healer and do not in any way claim to be able to heal by ourselves.

Through faith filled prayer we have regularly seen people healed, both in during our services and one to one counselling ministry. Everyone is welcome to come and receive prayer both at The Healing Place or our Sunday service.

Often healing comes as we remind ourselves and mediate on the scriptures concerning healing and faith Romans 10:17 some of which as are listed below:

Healing provision through the Cross:

Isaiah 53:4 “Surely our griefs (sicknesses) He Himself bore, And our sorrows (pain) He carried…”

Jesus delivers our healing:

Matthew 8:17 “This was to fulfill what was spoken through Isaiah the prophet: "He Himself took our infirmities and carried away our diseases ."

1 Peter 2:24 ‘He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, that we might die to sin, and live to righteousness; for by His stripes you were healed.”

Our authority, His power:

Luke 9:1-2 “And He called the twelve together, and gave them power and authority over all the demons and to heal diseases. And He sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to perform healing.”

Mark 16:17-18 "These signs will accompany those who have believed: in My name… they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover."

Our faith for healing:

James 5:15 “the prayer offered in faith will restore the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up, and if he has committed sins, they will be forgiven him.”

Our confidence for healing:

Mark 11:24 "Therefore I say to you, all things for which you pray and ask, believe that you have received them, and they will be granted you.”

John 14:13-14 "Whatever you ask in My name, that will I do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. "If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it.

Our faith for healing:

James 5:15 “the prayer offered in faith will restore the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up, and if he has committed sins, they will be forgiven him.”
